The Department of Academic Support Centers and Programs now offers a GRE Preparatory Course for students planning on continuing their education beyond undergraduate work.

Course Description

This course is designed to help you do your best on the GRE and to improve your chances of gaining admission to graduate school. This course will assist you to do your best on the new computer version of the General Test of the GRE. This course is designed to build confidence and sharpen test-taking skills. By examining each area of the GRE in depth, you will know what to expect and be able to expect and be able to set goals for improving your performance level. Students will be given two in-class practice tests.

Although no preparation course can guarantee a high score, this course will give you the opportunity to improve your verbal, quantitative, and analytical skills, and build your confidence to enable you to perform at your best. A full-scale practice test will also be given; details to be announced.

Class Note: Registering for the actual test is independent of registering for this course. Materials fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. Once you've paid for a preparatory course with us, you can come back anytime within the next 3 years and retake the same course free of charge (extra material costs not included) depending on space available.

How to Register for the GRE Preparatory Course

You may register for the GRE Preparatory Course at any WSU Testing Center . You may also register on the first day of class; however, depending on how many register on the first day of the course, you may have to pick up your course materials at a later date. Registration will be closed after the second day of the course has been held.

Goal setting, charting progress, and pre-course information

Day 2:

Explanation of selected problems covering: arithmetic, algebra, and geometry

   I. Quantitative comparisons
   II. Discrete quantitative problems
   III. Data interpretation
Strategies for answering questions
Practice problems and explanations

Day 5, 6:

Verbal Ability Section

   III. Sentence Completion
   IV. Reading Comprehension

Day 7:

Analytical Ability Section
Types of problems:
   I. Analytical reasoning
   II. Logical reasoning
Strategies for answering questions on analytical ability
How to organize a system of questions
Types of relationships among statements
Key words that describe relationships
Use of diagrams/structure of an argument
Common fallacies in drawing incorrect inferences
Practice problems and explanations
Instruction for taking practice test and charting progress

Day 8:

More practice problems and explanations on all three test areas
Explanation of selected problems on practice test
How to deal with anxiety
General test taking strategies
Strategies for preparing for the GRE during the final week
