Students who have less than 30 semester credits from any university or college are considered freshmen.
You are considered a new freshman if you have less than 30 credits and are attending university the Fall immediately following your high school graduation and have an active index score.If you graduate from high school with more than 30 credits (through early college or concurrent enrollment) you may apply as either a new freshmen or continuing student.
To be eligible for scholarships, please do the following:
- Complete the application for admissions to WSU.
- Complete the scholarship application via the eWeber portal before the deadline of January 9, 2012 (the earlier you apply, the more competitive you will be for the scholarship). To learn how to apply for scholarships click here.
To submit a petition to hold or defer an Academic Scholarship, complete the petition form and submit it to the WSU Financial Aid and Scholarship office.
Available Scholarships for Freshmen
Alumni Legacy Nonresident Scholarship
In order to qualify for the Alumni Legacy Nonresident Scholarship, you must:
- Not be a Utah resident
- Be admitted to Weber State University
- Have at least one parent who has earned an associates degree or higher from WSU (verification is required).
- Enroll at WSU as a first-time student to the Utah System of Higher Education.

Academic Scholarships
Academic scholarships are based on the high school cumulative grade point average and the composite ACT/SAT score (this creates an index score). The minimum index score for an academic scholarship is 105.
Be sure to keep Wednesday, February 1, 2012 circled on your calendar for WSU's Wildcat Welcome and Major Fest. This is an opportunity to receive a guaranteed academic award letter based on the information you've submitted to the Admissions Office. To be considered for academic scholarships students must be admitted to WSU and submit the online scholarship application before the scholarship deadline of January 9, 2012.
Presidential Scholarship:
- Awarded to new freshmen for four years of study at WSU
- Four-year (eight semester) waiver of in-state tuition and fees
- Estimated index score of 128 or higher (see index chart)
- Must maintain full-time status and a 3.75 cumulative GPA
- Aletheia Club member: Conditions and Criteria beginning Fall 2012
High Honors, Honors and Achievement Scholarship:
- Awarded to new freshmen for first year of study at WSU
- One-year (two semester) waiver of partial in-state tuition
- Scholarship index score determined yearly
- Must maintain full-time status and a 3.5 cumulative GPA
Emerging Leaders Scholarship:
- Awarded to new freshmen and transfer students for their first year at WSU
- Based on leadership experiences and community involvement
- One-year (two semester) partial waiver of in-state tuition
- Must maintain full-time status, a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be active in WSU Student Government/Activities

Wildcat Activity Scholarships
Activity scholarships are awarded to students who participate in various campus activities. Here are just a few of the organizations offering activity scholarships:
- Athletics (including basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball)
- Club sports (including bowling, hockey, rodeo and men's soccer)
- Debate
- Honors Program
- KWCR Radio
- The Signpost student newspaper

Financial Need-Based Scholarships:
- Awarded to students with financial need
- Must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online at least two weeks before March 1 to be considered for need-based scholarships
- Requirements vary per scholarship
Donor-Sponsored Departmental Scholarships
- Awarded through the academic college of your departmental major
- Priority is given to continuing students with 60+ hours
- Requirements vary per scholarship
- It's your responsibility to make sure your manor is declared properly
Donor-Sponsored Special-Condition Scholarships
- Awarded to students fitting very specific criteria
- In some instances, verification must be provided to theWSU Scholarship Office. Students will be contacted by Wildcat e-mailrequesting their additional information and verification. (Set up yourWildcat e-mail account here).
Sterling Scholar Scholarships
Offers are made to winners and runners-up in the five Utah regional competitions on a high-school and regional level. Note that this is not a scholarship that Weber State itself awards, rather high schools and regions award it and Weber State honors it.
- Awarded to new freshman for first year of study at WSU
- One-year (two semester) waiver of partial in-state tuition
- Must maintain full-time status and a 2.5 cumulative GPA
Army ROTC – Military Science Scholarships
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must graduate before age 27
- Must maintain full-time status and a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Scholarships cover full tuition, student fees and stipend

T. H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Payment
- For prospective students already admitted to the Department of Teacher Education
- High School seniors apply through High School Counselor
- Loan is repaid by teaching one year in Utah’s public schools for each year the loan is received
