Federal Perkins Loan | |||
|
The Federal Perkins Loan Program provides long-term, 5 percent interest loans to students with exceptional financial need. These loans are made through WSU’s Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. WSU acts as the lender, and the loan is made with government funds. Like any other student loan, you must pay back a Perkins Loan.
Maximum Loan AmountsIf you’re an undergraduate student, you may borrow up to $4,000 a year with a total maximum of $20,000 borrowed during your undergraduate years. If you’re a graduate student, you may borrow up to $6,000 a year with a total amount of $40,000 borrowed (in both undergraduate and graduate schools.) The actual amount you receive will depend on your need and WSU’s level of funding. DisbursementOnce you receive, sign and return the promissory note and complete the annual Perkins orientation, Perkins loan funds will be disbursed no earlier than 10 days prior to the start date of the semester. Paying Back Your LoanPayments on your Perkins Loan begin nine months after you graduate or leave school. How much you pay back each month will depend on how much you borrowed and how long you have to repay your loan. For additional re-payment information, contact the WSU Loan Servicing Dept, 1023 University Circle, Ogden, Utah, 84408 (801) 626-7004. |
