Income Adjustments

Special Income Considerations

Last year's income or your parents’ (if you are dependent) may not accurately reflect your financial strength or your family’s ability to contribute towards your college education. Under unusual and extenuating circumstances only, and with adequate documentation of those circumstances, the Financial Aid Counselor may make adjustments to your income data to more accurately measure your or your family’s ability to pay for educational costs.

Some circumstances that may be considered:
  • Tuition expenses paid at an elementary or secondary school for a dependent child in 2007.
  • Unusual medical or dental expenses paid in 2007 which were not covered by insurance.
  • A student, spouse or parent has a loss of employment or reduction in income.
  • A student, spouse or parent who was employed full-time in 2007 is no longer employed full-time in 2008.
  • Loss of benefits received in 2007: For example, unemployment compensation, social security benefits or court-ordered child support.

If any of the above applies to you and if your earnings will be drastically reduced in 2007, please contact the Financial Aid Office.  Any adjustment requires a one-on-one meeting with a Financial  Aid Counselor. Remember, you must provide adequate  documentation of your special circumstance before any adjustments will be made to your application data. Only one adjustment will be made per award year. No adjustment for 2008-2009 will be made before July 1, 2008. All adjustments end March 1, 2009.
