Applying for financial aid can be an involved process – especially if you are doing it for the first time. The following steps are provided to assist students with the process.
Step 1:
Obtain a PIN
To apply for federal financial aid on-line and to electronically sign your application you will need a personal identification number or PIN. Apply for a PIN (if you do not already have one) at www.pin.ed.gov. If you have fogotten your PIN number, you can access this site for information about PIN retrieval. If you are a dependent student, your parents should also apply for a PIN number to electronically sign the FAFSA. Your PIN will be emailed to you with in 1-5 working days. If you do not provide an email address at this site, your PIN will be sent to your permanent mailing address within 7 to 10 days. Once you have your PIN number, continue to Step 2.
NOTICE: For the 2008-09 FAFSA, a real time PIN number will be issued to 'first time' applicants which will act as your signature when you complete the 2008-09 FAFSA. You will not need to wait for the PIN number to be mailed to you. Proceed directly to Step 2.
Step 2:
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Access it on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you fill out the FAFSA application on-line you will need a PIN number to electronically sign your application (see above). Weber State University's school code number is 003680.
If you prefer, you can submit a paper application instead of an on-line application. Be aware that processing may take longer than the on-line submission. Obtain the paper form from one of three sources:
WSU Financial Aid Office, Student Service Center, room 120; or
Federal Student Aid Information Center, call 1-800-4-FED-AID, or
The local high school guidance counselor
You can apply for financial aid anytime. However, to ensure that your funding is available for the beginning of the semester you should apply by the priority deadline of March 1st.
Once the FAFSA is processed, WSU Financial Aid Office should receive the results electronically in about a week. Once WSU receives this data, you will be able to continue on to Step 3.
Step 3:
Complete the WSU financial aid application and check your status
From the WSU home page, click on Current Students and log-in to the eWeber portal. Go to the Student Services tab and follow the link Financial Aid to the Financial Aid Application. If you cannot access eWeber, you need to create a Wildcat ID (WCID). Click on the Get your WildCat ID link and follow the instructions. If you encounter any problems with your account, call Computing Services at 626-7777.
You must complete the FAFSA application before you can fill out the WSU financial aid application. It takes approximately 10 days for WSU to receive the results from the Department of Education.
Check your application status while logged in to eWeber portal. Any necessary documents you need to submit to the Financial Aid Office will be listed. Do not bring in any documents unless requested under the 'Check Status' option.
Step 4:
Notification and Acceptance of Financial Aid
Notification of your award will be sent to you through your Wildcat e-mail account, which is also accessed through the eWeber portal. Your award information is also displayed on-line. Log-in to eWeber, click on the Student Services tab, then the Financial Aid link, then select Overall Award Information, then Accept Award Offer By Aid Year. (Please note the other areas online in which you can obtain valuable information regarding your account).
In order for you to receive your Financial Aid you must accept the award on-line. You can accept all or part of the award offer. Keep in mind that Student Loan requests require additional processing time once accepted. To accept your award, click on the "TENT" display. This will create a drop down box where you can select "ACCEPT" or "DECLINE".
WSU does NOT mail out information through the postal service. Therefore, it is essential that you access eWeber regularly to check your financial aid status and read your Wildcat email. If you need to set-up a wildcat e-mail account go to: http://departments.weber.edu/it/eservices/.
