Family Medical Leave Act

Provides employees both female and male who have worked for at least 12 months and 1,250 hours in the past 12 months to take unpaid leave for:  birth of a child, or placement for adoption or foster care, serious health condition of a child, spouse or parent, or a serious health condition that prevents the employee from doing his/her job.  Health benefits are continued including mental health,
FMLA (cont.)

substance abuse,  dental benefits and retirement.  Any changes made to the employer plan while an employee is on leave applies to the employee as if the employee were actively employed.   When an employee returns from leave,  the employer reinstates the employee in an equilavent position.
