Hazardous Waste

What is a hazardous waste?

All chemicals at Weber State that are considered to be hazardous waste must be picked up by the Environmental Health & Safety office. The information below can assist in defining a hazardous waste.

A chemical is a hazardous waste if it is:

  • flammable (flash point<60 degrees Celsius)
  • oxidizer (organic peroxides, hydrogen peroxide, phosphorous pentoxide, etc)
  • corrosive (pH<2 or pH>12.5)
  • reactive (water reactive or explosive)
  • toxic (LDSO<1000 mg/Kg)
  • listed (any chemical or chemical process listed in 40CFR261, or in the Weber State Hazardous Waste Management Plan) concerned (Any chemical which may be hazardous, or whose potential hazards are unknown, or about which there is uncertainty regarding its potential hazard.)

How do I request a hazardous waste pick-up on campus?

All hazardous waste is picked up weekly. If you have hazardous materials to be picked up, use one of the following methods:

Complete and submit an online Hazardous Waste Request Pick-Up form (works only on Weber State campus)

Download and print a hard copy to complete and submit, or contact our office for other options.
