Program Expectations - Benchmark Exams

The paramedic program is a taught in a linear or sequential model.  Knowledge and skills that are taught in the beginning of the program are foundational.  As the program continues to build, all previous skills and knowledge must be maintained. Please see below the various methods Weber State uses to verify immediate and longstanding competencies. Should a student not achieve each of the competencies below, progression in the program is stopped
 
  • Clinical Expectations
    • Cardiac Catheterization lab experience must be completed by end of Fall semester
    • 80% of ED time must be completed by end of Fall semester
    • 50% of OR time must completed by end of Fall semester
    • 100% of Psychiatric must time completed by February 14
    • 65% of OB time must be completed by February 14
    • All clinical requirements shall be completed one week prior to Spring Commencement

  • Field Internship
    • Unless there are extenuating circumstances, field internship must be completed prior to the first day of the Summer semester.

  • Course Benchmarks
    • PAR 2000 Introduction to Paramedic
      • 75% average on sectional exams 1, 2, and 3
      • 80% on the final exam on no more than two attempts
    • PAR 2010 Cardiac and Medical Emergencies
      • 75% average on sectional exams 1, 2, 3 and 4
      • 80% on the final exam on no more than two attempts
      • 80% on the EKG/ACLS Treatment exam in no more than three attempts
    • PAR 2020 Trauma Emergencies
      • 80% on the final exam on no more than two attempts
    • PAR 2030 Special Populations
      • 80% on the final exam on no more than two attempts
    • PAR 2040 Paramedic Clinical I (skill lab)
      • 80% on the Cardiac Team Lead (mega-code) on no more than three attempts
      • 80% on the Pediatric Team Lead (mega-code) on no more than three attempts
      • Must pass 5 of 9 skills stations on the Mock Registry on first attempt
      • Must pass all National Registry Skills on no more than three attempts
      • Must achieve 80% on the comprehensive benchmark exam on no more than two attempts

  • Program Benchmarks
    • 84% on the ACLS and PALS exam with no more than two attempts
    • 80% on EKG Competency with no more than two attempts
    • 80% on the Oral Physician Examination on no more than two attempts
    • 80% on the Program Comprehensive Capstone exam on no more than two attempts
