Bobby McFerrin celebrates the transcendence of the American spirit with joyful new takes on familiar tunes. Ten-time Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin will always be the guy who sang Don't Worry, Be Happy, but his "greatest gift to audiences may be transforming a concert hall into a playground, a village center, a joyous space (The LA Times)." What Bobby McFerrin does is not an act; it's spontaneous invention. Bobby's legendary solo vocal performances have dazzled audiences all over the world and sent them home singing. Join Bobby and his band for an evening of virtuosic musicianship, community spirit, and pure fun.

This year’s theme is “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” from the African-American spiritual, compiled by John Wesley Work, Jr., dated back to 1865. This song has been sung and recorded by many gospel and secular performers and is considered a Christmas carol because its original lyric celebrates the birth of Jesus. In 1963 the song was adapted to refer implicitly to the civil rights struggle of the early 1960s.
This performance is free and open to the public. The Austad Auditorium will open at 7 p.m. with the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
