We provide peer tutoring in a range of developmental and lower-division courses, with a focus on general education courses. You can choose to drop in or sign up for an appointment. Tutoring is free to all WSU students.
Tutoring by Appointment
WSU Davis offers appointment tutoring in a variety of subjects each semester. Here are the steps to get a tutor:
1. Contact Nancy Balmert, 801-395-3524, to set up an orientation meeting.
2. Fill out a Request for Tutoring form.
If you need only a single meeting with a tutor, you may request a one-time appointment instead.
Drop-in Tutoring
Hours are listed on the bar to the right.
Math Drop-in Tutoring
-
Tutoring is available for help with Math 0950, 0955, 0960, 1010 and 1050. Help with advanced math classes depends on tutor availability.
Writing Tutoring
- Tutoring is available for help with English 900, 955, and 960 as well as English 1010 and 2010.
- Tutors can also help with any writing project from any WSU course.
Here's how drop-in tutoring works:
- Bring your work and questions.
- Find a seat and take a cup, which you will turn over to indicate when you need help.
-
For math, try to sit with others from your class so that you can work together.
-
The tutor will come to each student in turn. Have work to do in case you need to wait.
-
Have your schedule handy. If you want more in-depth help, you can set up an appointment.
Tutor Qualifications
Tutors have earned an A- or better, or an equivalent ACT score, in the course(s) they tutor. They also have earned a 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated excellent communication skills. Tutors attend training before the semester starts and then continue with a for-credit training course throughout the semester.
Become a Tutor
All tutoring positions are advertised through WSU Career Services. Tutors are usually hired at the end of each semester for the upcoming semester.
Tutors must be able to attend a for-credit training course certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Tutors work toward national certification at the Regular, Advanced and Master Tutor levels. Pay raises are tied to completion of training levels as well as tutoring experience. The current semester's tutor training syllabus is available here.
