The YCC has been operating in Ogden since 1950. Although their programs have changed over time, the mission of supporting and enhancing the quality of life for children and families has remained the same. Three program centers house YCC operations: The Gaye D. Littleton domestic Violence Victim Assistance Center, the Beverly J. Monson Homeless and Housing Assistance Center, and the Barbary Kimball Browning Family Enrichment Center. Volunteers are needed daily to help support these programs.
DVVAC (Domestic Violence Victim Assistance Center):
DVVAC is a program that assists victims and their families while transitioning from living at the YCC shelter to a life in the community. Volunteers accompany case managers to visit victims in order to provide continued support. This is an ideal internship position for a busy student. Hours can be flexible, ranging anywhere between 9am-7pm.
DVVAP (Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Program):
DVVAP is a 24-hour advocate support system. Participating in DVVAP requires volunteers to complete a training and commit to service over a 1 year time period. Those who qualify will… (describe typical duties)
Front Desk and Reception:
Volunteers are needed weekly to come and run the front desk. Individuals serving in the capacity would be responsible for answering questions over the phone or in person, completing tasks assigned by staff, and other office related duties. Needs change throughout the year so call the volunteer manager to check availability.
Special Events:
YCC hosts a number of holiday events that depend on volunteer support. Contact the volunteer coordinator to find out how you can get involved in Halloween, Christmas, and springtime one-time events.
Open Gym Nights:
The open gym at YCC offers volunteers a fun way to effect change in the lives of Ogden youths. Volunteers help direct activities and serve as positive role models for qualities such as sportsmanship and interpersonal communication.
Maintenance and Snow Removal:
For volunteers looking to work with their hands rather than people, opportunities abound to help with the facilities. The Senior LifeCare program helps seniors with needed home repairs. Projects vary daily—contact the volunteer coordinator to find out what jobs are available.
Helen M. Young Distribution Center:
YCC hosts an on-site donation warehouse similar to that of Deseret Industries or Goodwill. Volunteers can get involved by helping to sort new shipments in the warehouse.
