Catholic Community Services (CCS) of Northern Utah

provides for the basic needs of Northern Utah and creates hope for those who need it most. The Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank provides an average of 2300 food boxes every month to families in the Ogden Area as the largest food bank in Northern Utah. Hundreds of households per year enroll in their Homelessness Prevention & Rapid Rehousing Program. CCS is one of the longest standing partners of the CIC and seeks to provide individuals with meaningful service opportunities.

Clerical Opportunities: There are numerous ways to get involved in clerical-type duties. Volunteers are sometimes needed at the front desk to work with clients or answering questions and/or phones. Food bank client intake is also an option that involves verifying that individuals are qualified, adding their information to a database, and explaining the food bank process.

Small Group Projects: Student groups looking for service have ample opportunities. Past projects have included handout design and other design oriented projects, but groups can engage in a range of tasks. Groups looking to do a small project should learn about the needs of CCS and propose a project to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Food Warehouse Service: Serving in the warehouse is a great opportunity for those wanting to dive right in. Warehouse volunteers often work sorting new donations and in keeping the warehouse clean. Thousands of pounds of goods pass through the warehouse every month so there is always a need in this area.

If volunteers expect to complete more than 10 hours of service he or she will need to attend a volunteer orientation.

Advanced Skills: Individuals with skills in business, administration, or accounting can find practical service opportunities with CCS. Students can work with monthly reporting and grant writing. This is a great experience and a resumé builder. Individuals with journalism or graphic design experience can further develop their skills by producing a monthly client publication. Those with unique skills or talents can work with the volunteer coordinator to share your knowledge with clients. CCS strives to provide those seeking to challenge themselves and build their skills every opportunity to do so.

Students participating in any aspect of service with CCS may be eligible for AmeriCorps Education Awards.
