Jason M. Carlton, APR, (2004) is a communication specialist at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he specializes in social media, media relations, and video production, among other tasks. Prior to starting at Primary Children's, Jason worked as director of account services for a Salt Lake City-based public relations, advertising and marketing firm, coordinating numerous accounts and staff. In 2009, Jason completed a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Utah, and earned his Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in 2010. Jason is a regular contributor to Ragan's Health Care Communication News, has given numerous presentations across the country on engaging audiences in social media, is an active member of the Greater Salt Lake PRSA board and mentor for communication students.
Shane Farver (2004) worked as a reporter for the Standard-Examiner for three years before attaining a master's degree in mass communication from the University of Utah. He then returned to Weber State University as a faculty member. Shane is now an instructor of multimedia journalism and the faculty adviser to The Signpost, WSU’s student news organization. He teaches journalism-oriented courses such as Media Writing and News Reporting and Writing.
Trevor Morris (2003) has worked in the banking and finance industries for 13 years in a variety of capacities. He is currently the Marketing Manager at TAB Bank, a commercial bank located in Ogden. He is responsible for working with all marketing, advertising, communications, and public relations aspects of the bank. He is a lifelong resident of Ogden area and is very active in the community. He has volunteered as a mentor to students at local elementary and high schools as well as volunteering as a youth football, basketball, baseball, and soccer.
Paul Grua (2002) has worked for Weber State University Athletics for eight years working in media relations and Marketing. In 2011 he was named the Media Relations Director where he handles all media and information request for Wildcat Athletics. Paul is a member of the first class of students for the Masters of Professional Communication at Weber State.
Ryan Taylor (2000) worked in the Marketing Department at the Standard-Examiner for three years upon graduation. He has now spent the past nine years employed in the Temple Department of the LDS Church and currently works as an assistant recorder at the Salt Lake Temple. He resides in South Weber with his wife (Julie) and their three children.
Cody Strong (1997) worked as a Marketing Manager for two years before he earned his Master's in Public Administration from Brigham Young University. He deployed twice with the Utah Army National Guard to Kosovo and Iraq. After graduation from BYU, he was selected as a Presidential Management Fellow with the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington D.C. In 2006, he began working full time for the Army National Guard in Arlington, VA.
Kristie Nielsen (1997) worked in public relations and marketing at Davis Applied Technology College while completing her degree at Weber State University in Communication with a public relations emphasis. She graduated in June 1997 and joined Weber State University Continuing Education in October the same year as a program administrator. She has worked in both credit and non-credit programs at WSU over the past 14 years. Kristie completed her Master of Education at Weber State in April 2010 and now serves as the Director of Marketing and Communication in Continuing Education.
Joe Dallimore (1996) works as the Director of Business Intelligence for MarketStar Corporation managing a team responsible for conducting business analysis and market research and then communicating findings to MarketStar clients (professors are right: communication skills are always a job requirement!). Joe’s prior roles include marketing and corporate finance positions at Sprint and Dell. He received an MBA from the University of Rochester (2000) and currently serves on the WSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Alan Ferrin (1995) has worked in the Multimedia Services Department at Weber State University for the past 18 years. He is a media designer/producer and works primarily in audio and video production. He manages the video scoreboards at Stewart Stadium (football) and the Dee Event Center (basketball). He team teaches a class of students, and directs this crew during game day productions. Alan was recognized at Weber State as the Presidential Outstanding Professional Staff member in 2007-2008. He currently serves on several committees including the Professional Staff Advisory Committee. Alan has worked in numerous environments and has freelanced on many professional crews - however he "Bleeds Purple" and his heart will always belong to the Wildcats!
Before 1990
Randy Scott (1973) earned an M.A. in Communication from Northern Illinois University and taught for two years in Wisconsin before returning to WSU as Director of Forensics in 1977. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Oregon. In 1985 he became department chair and served for 21 years as chair. He received the Professor of the Year award from Weber State in 1980 and the Master Teacher award from the Western States Communication Association in 2004. Randy was elected president of the Cross Examination Debate Association and served as a member of the National Individual Events Tournament national committee and the American Forensic Association's Blue Ribbon Commission on Forensics. He also hosted three national forensics tournaments at Weber State. Randy anticipates retiring from WSU in June of 2013.
Donald G. Godfrey, Ph.D. (1968) is a broadcast educator, a professional broadcaster, and a historian. He is a former President of the national Broadcast Education Association (BEA); served as President of the National Council of Communication Associations (CCA); and an Editor of the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media. He is the Director and Founder of the Cronkite School’s Doctoral Program. He has received multiple honors. His research has been published in every major communications journal. He has written/edited more than a dozen books. He has worked in commercial radio, television, and corporate communications. He spent twelve years at KIRO-TV, Seattle, WA. Dr. Godfrey teaches at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, at Arizona State University and says his greatest reward is still teaching, “I simply enjoy watching my students grow.”
