Current field of Study

My current research interest involves designing and developing open sourced software engineering and database solutions for electronic medical record systems, and consequently is the catalyst of my leading the department’s study abroad initiative in Ghana, West Africa. My other area of research is in Instructional Design and e-learning, with additional emphasis in the areas of serious gaming and collaborative learning technologies. I have extensive knowledge and practical experience in systems analysis and design practices as well as current software engineering development methodologies, with primary focus on Human Computer Interface (HCI) interactions. Since the beginning of my Computer Science and Information Systems career I have been responsible for designing, programming, and developing several software programs, electronic training simulations, database projects, and dynamic web sites for the United States Air Force, non-profit groups, and several organizations in both our local and global communities.

Biggest Accomplishment in CS

Some of the highlights of my career involve managing a help desk for several thousand Air Force users, building the first mobile computer deployment kits for troops stationed in Iraq, administrating a working capital fund database for the Department of Defense, with over $4.5 Million in assets, and supervising the design and delivery of an electronic medical records system for a 1700 bed hospital in Ghana, West Africa.

Something Interesting

I'm from Montana, and have always wanted to see the world. I love to travel to faraway places, and have visited all 50 states, plus 47 countries in the past 13 years…despite speaking only English. My favorite? New Zealand! In between travels, I love to scuba dive, hike, ski, and gourmet cook (with particular focus on wine pairings). I’m also retired from the US Air Force Reserves (after 23 years of service) - thanks to all those who currently serve (or have served) our country!
