ChFam 2610 and 2620 Background Check Required

Currently, you are enrolled in CHF 2610 Guidance based on Developmental Theory or CHF 2620 Planning Creative Experiences for Young Children for Fall 2014.  We are excited about the upcoming semester and want you to be prepared for these courses.  Both courses have lab requirements fulfilled in the Melba S. Lehner Children's School and WSU Charter Academy.  According to state law, every student MUST submit a valid criminal background clearance card before being allowed to work with children in the lab classroom.  If you have completed a background check at Weber State University within the past three years, you have already satisfied this regulation and are ready to work with children in your assigned lab this fall.  If you have not, please read the following instructions.

If you are an early childhood or family studies major or a child development minor, you will complete the WSU CHF only background check.  If you are an early childhood education, elementary education, or double major who seeks a teaching license, you will complete the USOE background check at WSU.

To complete either background check, please stop by ED 204 and speak to Melinda Bowers.  She will direct you to the next steps in the process that will include completing a background check application form, submitting a payment of $60 at the Cashier’s Office in the Student Services Center (CHF only students), or paying $20 at the Cashier’s Office and $40 on USOE background check website (USOE students), and signing up for an appointment with a receipt of payment.

WSU Fingerprinting Office (ED 022) will be open for only CHF 2610 and CHF 2620 students on August 11 (3-6pm), August 13 (3-6pm), and August 15 (9am-12pm).  When you come for your appointment, please bring a duplicate payment receipt and a valid, state issued phone ID (driver’s license or passport).  Clearance cards can be picked up from ED 204 (CHF only students) or ED 230 (USOE students) approximately 7 business days after fingerprinting.

We strictly follow this policy in CHF 2610 and CHF 2620:

The criminal background check must be completed by the first week of the semester in order to stay on time with assignments and to successfully pass this course.  If the student fails to submit criminal background clearance card by the first week, he/she will not be allowed to proceed with field experience that begins the second week of the semester.
