AHEC aims to improve access to health care through education; its ultimate goal is to help eliminate the shortages of health care professionals in rural and other medically underserved communities.

The program works toward this goal by:

• Educating youth about careers in health professions
• Supporting clinical training for health care students in underserved areas
• Supporting continuing education to help retain health care professionals.
