RN to BSN (BSN) Nursing

APPLICANT CHECKLIST FOR FALL 2008

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RN TO BSN PROGRAM IS FOR LICENSED RN’S.

IT IS NOT A “GENERIC” BSN PROGRAM!

Application availability: . Fall Semester (August)–applications available in January of each year.

. Spring Semester (January) –applications available July of each year

Duration of program: *3 semesters (Accelerated) minimum * 10 semesters or five years maximum

* Recommended/regular time - 4 semesters at approximately 9 to 10 hours a semester

Note: All course work must be completed in five years. Curriculum subject to change

Approximate number of positions available for each application cycle:

Fall Semester (August) - Approximate positions: 60

Spring Semester (January) - Approximate positions: 60

Application deadlines: Fall Semester: April 1

Spring Semester: November 1

Application Eligibility Requirements (must meet criteria by the application deadline) to be eligible to apply.

1. 9 Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Registered Nurses who have documented five or more years of work experience of documented work

experience may apply if their CUM GPA is 2.5 or higher AND their Nursing GPA is 3.0 or higher (from all courses with a Nursing pre-fix).

2. 9 Current Utah Registered Nurse license without restrictions

3. 9 Graduate of NLN accredited Diploma, Associate Degreee Nursing (AS, AAS) Programs. **Graduates who are not from an NLN

Accredited programs must take NLN ACE - II Exams. See Advisor for details! (If you will be an Associate Degree graduate before

the program starts then you are eligible to apply as well.)

4. 9 Completed Baccalaureate Nursing Application

PREREQUISITES which must be completed prior to registration for Program:

Chemistry 1110 (Or Chem 1050) 5 cr (*)Human Anatomy and Human Physiology 8 cr

Nutrition 1020 3 cr Pathophysiology 3 cr

Microbiology 1113 3 cr Intro. To Psychology 3 cr

English 1010 3 cr English 2010 3 cr

WSU Quantitative Literacy Requirement (Math 1030, 1040, 1050, 1080. See advisor)

Selection Process: A point system is used for facilitating selections. Priority in the selection process is given to Associate of

Science Degree in Nursing Graduates (AD). Priority is also given to applicants who have completed all nursing

prerequisites and WSU General Education requirements.. Additional criteria used in the selection process include writing

sample review, CUM GPA, and years of work experience as an RN. Additionally applicants who choose either the 3 or 4

semesters option will be considered over those who choose just the part-time option.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with an advisor before applying to verify that all prerequisites, etc are

completed.. In order for the review to be complete, all transcripts must have been sent to WSU admissions for official

review.

There is currently a higher demand for RN to BSN positions than are available so please be advised that the

application process is competitive!!

Application Level (Note: Nursing 3040 is a prerequisite for all courses with a lab):

Nursing 3040 - Concepts in Acute Illness* (3)

Nursing 3045 - Decision Making in Nursing Practice (2)

Nursing 4030 - Power, Policy and Politics (2)

prepare for graduate school.

Total hours for a BSN Degree from WSU 120

Students entering with less than 80 semesters hours must

be prepared to complete extra course/credits to meet the

University requirement of 120 total hours. Students are

responsible for review of personal records and knowledge

of individual requirements for graduation!!!!!!

If you have a record of convicted criminal actions it may affect your eligibility for admissions to the WSU Nursing

Program. Additionally all admitted applicants will be required to complete a mandatory drug test. Admission to the

program is contingent upon submission of a satisfactory background check and a negative drug test. If a background

check reveals a history of convicted criminal actions or the drug test result is positive for controlled substances

(prescription or non-prescription), then the student may not be allowed to begin the program and will not be entitled

to any refunds of tuition dollars or other fees.
