Transfer Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to wait until my community college courses are completed before I can transfer?

No. You may apply to the University whenever you feel you are ready to transfer. When you apply you will need to send a current transcript. Once you have completed your coursework at your college, you will need to have another transcript sent in order to update your transfer work here at WSU.

What transfer credit is accepted at WSU?

Credit courses that are numbered 1000 level or above are transferable to WSU when earned at a USHE or other accredited institution. Credit will be carried on the student’s transcript by WSU but may not apply towards certain degree requirements. WSU Academic Departments will determine transfer credits acceptable toward their majors. Credit for students transferring from regionally accredited colleges and universities outside the Utah System of Higher Education will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Courses with a D- grade are acceptable for credit, but they may not apply to requirements.

How does my Associate Degree or Letter of Completion fit in?

Students transferring to WSU with an Associate of Arts, an Associate of Science, or a Letter of Completion earned at any institution within the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), will be considered as having met the WSU general education requirements. Associates degrees received outside the USHE will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.

What if a course is accepted but is not applied to a requirement?

All accepted courses are applied toward general credit requirements. However, if you think a course should apply toward a general education or major requirement, you will need to contact your
major advisor or the Academic Advisement Center.

Who is considered a transfer student?

You are considered a transfer student if you have completed at least 30 semester credit hours at an accredited institution and have a cumulative college GPA of a 2.0
Students that do not have at least 30 semester credit hours must apply as a freshman.

How should I begin the transfer process?

If you are not sure Weber is right for you, make an appointment to meet with your prospective
major advisor and bring in a copy of your unofficial transcript(s).

If you are ready to transfer, complete the admissions application form online or in person at the
Admissions Office, submit all your transcripts, and make an appointment to meet with your major advisor.

When is the best time to apply to transfer?

There are no admissions deadlines; however, transfer students should plan to apply by the following dates for each semester:

    Fall--- April 1st
    Spring--- November 1st
    Summer ---March 1st

Applying by the above dates will ensure that the student’s transfer courses are appropriately articulated. An early admission also allows transfer students the additional time to apply for scholarships, attend orientation, meet with an advisor, and register for courses.

When will my transfer credits be evaluated?

Transcripts are evaluated on a first come, first served basis. Once you have submitted your transcripts to the
Admissions Office your credits will be evaluated within one month. Because of the high volume of transcripts we receive each semester, we recommend that you apply and submit your transcripts by the priority deadlines listed above.

How may I transfer credit to WSU?

You may transfer credit from all institutions of higher education that you have attended by submitting an official transcript from each institution. Once the transcript has been received, WSU will evaluate your credits and accept any courses that are numbered 1000 level or above and come from an accredited institution.

Do I need to submit transcripts from every institution I’ve attended?

Yes. You are required by law to submit transcripts from all colleges previously attended, regardless of your grades and/or academic standing at those institutions.

What grades transfer? Can I get credit for pass/fail courses?

WSU accepts all courses at a 1000 level or above with a minimum grade of a D- toward the total University credit requirement. However, it is up to each individual department what grades they are willing to accept toward their major. If you have questions, please contact your major
advisor or the Academic Advisement Office.

Yes. You can get credit for any course you took pass/fail at your previous institution as long as you received a passing grade.
