Deans Council Minutes (2001-2002)

Present:  Bruce Bowen, Dave Eisler, David Greene, Gene Sessions, Joan Hubbard, Kathleen Lukken, Craig Gundy (for Lydia Wingate), Michael Vaughan, Monica Mize, Paul Thompson, Richard Sadler, Ron Galli, Warren Hill

Facilities Management Services:
Mike Perez introduced two Facilities Management documents to the Council for review and feedback.  With the assistance of a work group he has drafted a PPM document for the PPM and definitions of Facilities Management Services responsibilities.  The Facilities Management Services document clarifies the chargeable and non-chargeable services, with a breakdown by Vacation/Trade, Frequently Requested Services, Common Area, and Building or Location.  Mike will notify us when these documents, along with the FM Policy, are put on the web http://weber.edu/fm.  Mike was thanked and applauded for his hard work and efforts to improve service to WSU campus.

Budget Reduction:
Deans were reminded to schedule an appointment with the provost for budget reduction discussions.  It is anticipated that the Legislature will make an announcement about this budget cycle by the end of June.  We need to consider preparations for these potential cuts.

Annual Reports:
Annual reports are due by August 1st.  The guidelines from the PPM were distributed with the comment that the report should be a synthesis of department’s strengths and weaknesses.  The annual reports will be very useful for institutional planning for the 2004 Self-Study Assessment.

Retreat Topics:
The Retreat will focus on strategies on where we need to move in the future and how to get there.  The retreat is June 7th, at the Crown Plaza, Ogden, UT, from 9 am to 4 pm.  The proposed topics are

  1. UCAT, ATE, & upper division enrollment,
  2. Davis Campus,
  3. Technology Systems, and
  4. Fund raising, transitioning from the Capital Campaign.

Announcements:

  • Next Meeting – July 10th
  • Deans were encouraged to be aware of closed classes and class sizes for fall 2002, so WSU can offer enough sections for students
  • Dave expressed appreciation to all personnel at WSU for their dedication and understanding during this time of budget uncertainties.

Meeting adjourned 3:30pm.
