2008 Call for Proposals

The Academic Resources and Computing Committee is soliciting competitive proposals for projects related to the use of technology in educational settings. This year includes a special call for faculty-led initiatives that position Weber State University as a leader in the innovative use of educational technology. The committee anticipates awarding a total of $150,000. Due to the construction backlog on campus, ARCC will fund a limited number of multi-media classroom renovations or updates, and instead will focus on faculty-led initiatives that improve the educational experience for Weber State students.

Such initiatives might include:
  • Podcasting and lecture recording
  • Interactive technologies
  • Wireless and notebook computers innovations
  • Software and hardware associated with online course development
  • Technology initiatives that support multiple courses
Proposals will be competitively evaluated based on the following three criteria:
  1. How does the proposed project enhance the educational experience of Weber State students?
  2. How does the proposed project help position Weber State as a leader in innovative use of technology for education?
  3. How will the proposed project’s success be evaluated?
In addition, the following guidelines apply:
  • To be considered for evaluation, proposals will include the signed cover-sheets, a detailed budget, as well as no more than three-pages summarizing the project and addressing the three criteria outlined above. Cover and budget sheets can be downloaded at http://weber.edu/ARCC/submission.html.
  • The proposals must be faculty-initiated projects. That is, no general, college-wide proposals will be accepted or reviewed. Collaborative proposals, including those between different departments and colleges, are encouraged.
  • Proposals must be reviewed by the colleges’s ARCC representative and the department chair. If matching funds are requested from the college, the dean’s signature is also required.
  • For colleges with internal ARCC review, colleges may rank their faculty's proposals to aide in the committee's review efforts, but rankings are not required.
  • For certain projects an IT expert's signature is required.  You must contact the appropriate individual if you are implementing a wireless network, multimedia classroom, software/hardware purchase that will require use of a campus server or work with online course software like WebCT Vista or ChiTester. You must give time before the deadline - the recommendation is 3 weeks - for that person to do an evaluation.
