The ACUC performs all duties as outlined by the Animal Welfare Act including reviewing all studies, courses, and experiments which require the use of any animal species, living or dead. Insects are exempted. The ACUC is currently composed of 9 members which include faculty, staff, veterinarian, and a community representative.
The Committee is charged with responsibility for inspecting all institutional facilities where animals are kept for longer than 12 hours. The ACUC meets semi-annually for inspections and animal protocol review and such other times as are necessary to ensure Animal Welfare Act compliance and for additional protocol reviews.
