The ACUC is required under the Animal Welfare Act and USDA Regulations. The purpose of the ACUC is to ensure the humane treatment of animals used in research and other academic activities. The committee formally reviews the use of animals by the university, its faculty and staff and inspects and approves conditions under which animals are maintained at or on behalf of the institution. The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) supports this committee by assisting the chair in documenting compliance with the USDA.
